Biography Joshua D. Schor. MD
Author, The Nursing Home Guide

Joshua Schor, M.D., graduated from the Yale University School of Medicine and completed his residency in internal medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital. Following residency, Dr. Schor completed a fellowship in geriatric medicine at the Harvard University Division on Aging. Currently, he is medical director at Daughters of Israel in West Orange, New Jersey. He teaches and speaks widely on long-term care and has been named a top doctor in the field of geriatrics by New Jersey Monthly for several years running.

Dr. Schor's interest in geriatrics evolved steadily during his training and he was fortunate enough to be mentored by dedicated pioneers in the field. He was awarded a Henry Luce Fellowship in 1984 to work for one year at the Tokyo Metropolitan Geriatrics Hospital in Japan. He has written about the experience in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA). While at the Harvard Division on Aging, Dr. Schor conducted research on the phenomenon of delirium in the hospitalized elderly. He published this work in several journals including JAMA.

Dr. Schor provides primary care to nursing home residents and derives joy from his daily interactions with his patients. He considers himself privileged to spend much of his day in his patients' home…the nursing home…and recognizes that this provides the opportunity not only to observe them for signs of disease, but to have them share their lives and life stories with him. Please visit the humanities in medicine page to share your own poems, reflections, art and stories with him. Dr. Schor lives in northern New Jersey with his wife Lori and they have three teenage daughters.
